Historical buildings

Piazza Vecchia

Basilica Santa Maria Maggiore

The basilica is a church that is located in the Upper Town, in the square of Duomo.
Built in the second half of the twelfth century, the exterior retains the original Romanesque-Lombard architecture, while the interior is decorated in Baroque style (1500-1700). (Source: Wikipedia)

Baptistery

In front of the facade of the cathedral, on the other side of Piazza del Duomo, it is the baptistery.
In an octagonal plan, it was built in 1340 by Giovanni from Campione as a baptismal font for the basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, where it was originally located, probably in the end of the nave. Was dismantled in 1660 and rebuilt in 1856 in the courtyard of the Canons to be rebuilt in neo-Gothic style to its current location in 1900. (source: Wikipedia)

Venetian walls

The walls were built by the Venetian Republic in the city of Bergamo since 1561 and completed in 1588, a time when the city was orobica the western end of the Venetian domains on the mainland.
This wall is made up of 14 bastions, 2 decks, 32 watch towers (of which only one has come down to us), 100 openings for guns, two powder, 4 doors (St. Augustine, St. James, undoubtedly the most beautiful and overview, Saint Alexander and San Lorenzo, the latter also known as Porta Garibaldi). Museum of Natural Science

The Museum of Natural Sciences Enrico Caffi Bergamo, located in the Upper Town in the Citadel next to the Archaeological Museum of Bergamo, "guards collected refer to all the natural sciences, it preserves more than a million artifacts, and has an exhibition area of over 1,800 m² »

Botanical Garden of Bergamo "Lorenzo Rota"

The Botanical Garden Lorenzo Rota of Bergamo which is located on Colle Aperto in the Upper Town, is a small laboratory naturist where the passion and the art of the staff manage to combine exotic plants with indigenous ones.
In a small space of 1,750 square meters is home to over 900 different botanical species including endemics Atalanta, such as Sanguisorba dodecandra, as well as several species of carnivorous plants (among all the carnivorous sundew), aquatic plants and medicinal plants, by well-assorted whole.

Palace of Reason

The building, for centuries called Palatium Comunis Pergami, is located in the Upper Town, which is the part enclosed within the Venetian walls; is the oldest municipal building in Italy.

The fortress

The Fortress of Bergamo is located in the upper part of the city on the hill of Sant'Eufemia, which dominates the south, the lower town and the surrounding plain view while to the north rim of the Orobie. The Sentierone, Bergamo low

The center of the modern Bergamo is an ideal place to stroll of shopping, entertainment, art and history!
This magnificent stretch of road is the elegant secular Piacentini Center, an amazing architectural complex that once housed the old city fair.
This ancient atmosphere is evoked thanks to the many events and the typical stalls all year alive with color and fragrance to the city center.
